The Five Archetypes

A method that reacquaints you with untapped resources.

Based on a combination of ancient wisdom and frontier science, the Five Archetypes (Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, Wood) are the common physical, emotional, and spiritual life-sustaining resources within us. When we use all of them in balance, our relationships are harmonious. When we only rely on one, which most of us do, we create disharmony, confusion, and relationships suffer.

The solution to creating harmony in relationships.

The resource we over-rely on is known as our primary Archetype. We each have one, and understanding it gives us insight into the limited perspective and predictable, impulsive behavior that we can default into under stress. But since these patterns are predictable, they are also avoidable. Prevention begins within, developing an awareness of the unconscious ways we stay stuck and strengthening access to the other four underused resources.

The data is astounding.

Ancient wisdom and a decade of Five Archetypes questionnaire data from nearly 100,000 people align. 75% of people:

  • Don’t know how to notice the early clues of disharmony
  • Think others need to change so they feel comfortable
  • Believe that chaos and change are intolerable and that someone else should fix it

The good news is, the solution is easy. The first step is uncovering your archetype makeup.

A change model, not a label.

When I wrote The Five Archetypes in 2019, I was excited to share what I thought was a new kind of personality system rooted in ancient technology. Who wouldn’t be excited? Patterns feel reliable and provide relief from wondering “what’s wrong with me?”

Once the book was published and gained acclaim, I was invited to heal thousands of real relationships: couples, co-founders, families, and teams. In the field, working directly with people in pain, everything I believed about personality systems changed.

Session after session, I watched good, loving people unconsciously hurt themselves and each other. And it wasn’t because they were “different types.” It was because they didn’t have the skills to slow down and mind muscles to tolerate discomfort. When they began to feel uncomfortable, their lens narrowed, and a limited, protective story took over. Labels and personality typing didn’t help there. Learning to listen for the first sign of their own resistance to change did. (Read More)

“Life changing insight. The moment it hit me, it was like when a parent turns on the light in a dark bedroom, and the monster is found to be a pile of stuff in the chair.”

“Completely [changed] the way I consider people who stress me out or rub me the wrong way or just see the world differently than I do…. [The Five Archetypes] is fascinating—and Davidson is brilliant…. Read the book, mull it over, and prepare to have your mind blown.”
